Still not feeling it. 😦
I’m not sick-sick like I was last week, but I’m still feeling groggy, slow, sniffly and out of it. I’m trying to reincorporate working out back into my daily routine, but it’s definitely lacking.
I looked up a few articles online about working out while sick, because that seems to be the age-old question “do I workout with a cold?”.
Now according to an article I read on CNN.com, they say that if you have the sniffles or a mild cold symptoms moderate excercise is okay. And that once you are feeling better, don’t start working back out at 100%, start at a lower level. Give your body some time recuperate or you might relapse or prolong your illness.
According to an article read at Military.com, they break it down like this – The rule is if your chest is congested, you have a fever, chills, dehydration or any alter ailment from the neck down do not workout. However, with a head cold, sinus pain, sniffles, sneezing etc., it is fine to workout as long as you have normal energy and do not feel sluggish.
I ask this question because I am at a point where I am feeling better, but still have cold symptoms and still feeling blah. I want to work out and keep the momentum I had going with my two-a-days and the boot camp sessions, but I am worried about possibly making myself sicker.
I am just going to keep incorporating light exercises into my day and try to work my way into doing more strenuous workouts as I feel better and gain more energy. There is no need to feel bad or guilty that I am not doing more, because I need to give my body time to recuperate.
What are you thoughts on working out while sick or having certain cold symptoms? Whats your rule of thumb?
On a fun note, I finally created the Chocolate Mint Monster!
This guy was unbelievably delicious!
Ingredietnts:
- 1 cup almond milk
- 2 handfuls of spinach
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- several sprigs of fresh mint leaves (like 10 ish)
Don’t forget to enter my rockin’ Under Armor T-Shirt Give-away, if you haven’t already. You have until friday! 🙂
I don’t necessarily have a rule of thumb (I’m fortunate and rarely get sick), but if I’m feeling run-down, I’ll likely skip the workout and take the extra rest/recovery.
Hope you are on the mend!
I will continue to workout if it’s a head cold. But once it goes below the neck (like a tummy ache) I rest.
That smoothie looks great. I love how green it is!
My rule of thumb is the same as what you researched. Luckily, I haven’t been sick in quite some time. I hope you feel better soon!
nice juice! hopefully all the vitamins in it helped u get better! 🙂
