Red Shag Yoga

Keeping on my December Challenge of being active everyday I knew I needed a little bit of yoga-love after Monday night’s J. Alabama boot camp workout.

So I called up my mom, who also happens to be going to school for her yoga certification, to do a little yoga sesh in the comfort of home. Home, as in my old bedroom.

Awww… check out that red shag carpet. It’s hard to believe I grew up in this room and now it’s being used as my mom’s yoga room!

We  set up our mats and followed through 3 different yoga videos. Each were roughly 20 minutes long.

It felt so good to get a good stretch in and loosen up all the muscles from the priors days workout.

My mom was awesome too! A couple of times she corrected my posture and explained different things she is learning in her class. Her suggestions really helped me improve my poses.

It was a great relaxing way to end the night. I did manage to catch parts of the Biggest Loser and heard they did run another marathon, but didn’t actually see that part. My body thanked me immensely for picking yoga over The Biggest Loser.

Did you watch Biggest Loser last night?

Now onto a really exciting product review! Have you seen the DARK CHOCOLATE Almond Milk yet?

Omigawsh, I about screamed in the grocery store when I saw this. It was a total impulse buy as I usually stick to the unsweetened flavor of almond milk.

Upon first sip of this stuff I was sold. It tasted like a thick and creamy glass of milk. I don’t even think regular almond milk has a real milky consistency, so I was stoked that this one held it’s own in that category.

It was delicious. Enough said!

But could it hold up in my morning smoothie? That was the question that needed to be asked.

So I opted to make an oldie, but goodie smoothie concoction. Remember the Chocolate Cherry Bomb craze?

Well I opted to make one of those, and use a new protein powder I had picked up on my one and only trip to Whole Foods when I was in Denver.

The infamous VEGA protein.

100_4335

The Cherry Bomb Smoothie contained

  • 1 cup frozen cherries
  • 2 handfuls of fresh spinach
  • 1 banana
  • 1 packet of vega chocolate protein
  • 1 cup of dark chocolate almond milk

And a cherry on top!

100_4337

Verdict… ehhhh…. I thought it was too sweet in a weird way. I keep thinking the taste that didn’t set well in my mouth was the protein powder not my beloved Almond Milk.

How to be sure though?

I opted to majorly work my creative juices to come up with another smoothie to test the taste of the Dark Chocolate Almond Milk.

None other than the ChOCO-POM-MONSTER.

That’s right folks,  I may have created a monster, but it’s lip licking delicious. Okay, atleast it sounds delish…right?

How can you go wrong with POM?

I also decided to bust out another new protein. This one came from Amanda & Andy in my package I received earlier this week.

100_4354

Once all the ingredients were blended up you have yourself a choco-licious Pom-Monster!

100_4355

My CHOCO-POM-MONSTER:

  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate almond milk
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1 banana
  • 2 handfuls of spinach
  • 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder

100_4356

The final verdict….

The smoothie had slight hint of pomegranate & a delightful chocolatey smooth finish. The protein powder however left it with a slight nutty taste. I assume that is from the Rice Protein.

It’s pretty darn good. But I think it might taste even better minus the protein powder all together. You know, to enhance the pomegranate flavor more.

So I would like to think that Chocolate Almond Milk is just as awesome (if not more) than regular almond milk. In the smoothie it’s not an overpowering chocolate flavor, but just as a plain glass of almond milk is the perfect drink to satisfy that urge to drink to a cold glass of chocolate milk.

Yum!

There you have it friends… Red Shag Yoga, a Chocolate Almond Milk Review and a few new & delicious smoothies to add to my ever growing Smoothie tab.

Happy Wednesday Friends!
