Long time no post

Wow, to think it’s almost been an entire month since I last posted is absolutely insane. But as they say…life happens!

To be honest with y’all, I was in amazing place when we first moved to El Paso in the middle of August. I was excited by the newness, the possibilities, the unknown…then I went back home to Boise, Idaho for my brother’s wedding.

After two weeks of reconnecting with family and old friends in such a comfortable environment, the return trip back to El Paso (a place where I didn’t know my way around and I didn’t know anyone) gave me a bit of the blues.

I tried not to let the fact that I was far away from family and friends or the fact that I was essentially starting all over again bring me down – but it was.

The thing that is different about this move compared to our move to Georgia is that J. Alabama joined an Army Unit that was already active. We are basically the late ones to the party – so everyone already knows each other and are already established. In Georgia, he was attending a school, which meant all the Mil-Wives I met were in the same exact boat as me. New to the Army, new to Georgia.

So now I just have to be a little more proactive in every encounter I have with people. I know I will make friends and feel comfortable here in El Paso, it will just take some time.

Until then, J Alabama gets to explore this wild new world of El Paso with me! Which actually has been a blast. Here are few photos from our adventures this past month.

House Update: In other news…we are still anxiously awaiting the closing on our brand new house. There is talk that it could happen within the next two weeks [fingers crossed].

I can absolutely guarantee that I will be in a better place once we close on the house and I can be reunited with all my personal belongings. Camping out in a temp apartment for two months with only the items we packed in our cars is starting to wear me down.

I don’t like to blog when I don’t have anything positive to say, so that explains my silence the past few weeks. I feel better now that you all know what’s up with me and I assure you things are getting better every day over here.

Thanks for listening!! 🙂

Rave Run: El Paso’s Scenic Drive Park

One of our first stops upon arriving to El Paso last week led us to the local running store in town. There I met a women who told me of the amazingness of Scenic Drive Park here in El Paso.

LOCATION: Scenic Drive Park, El Paso, Texas

RUNNER: Linzi Alabama

THE EXPERIENCE: Every Sunday between 7:00 am – 11:00 am this almost two mile road is closed to all motor vehicles. It’s a a twisty and hilly road that hugs the mountains and overlooks all of the city. We heard it was the best place to run in EP so of course we hit it up last Sunday morning!

The climb of this short run is no joke, I was huffing and puffing the entire way. And you better believe that I took advantage of the scenic overview stops to snap some photos. You know for a photo break not a walking break. Riggggght.

It was fun to see bikers, runners, and even walkers out enjoying the beautiful morning. And I was just so excited to have at least one running route here in El Paso, even if it is only available on Sunday mornings.

There is something so freeing about running in the middle of the road without worry of any traffic, all whilst looking over your shoulder and viewing the heart of the city. Amazing I tell ya!

Happy Running my friends! And now that I’m back in Idaho for almost 2 weeks, you can bet I will be hitting up some of my favorite running paths here! So exciting.

If you are interested in sharing a RAVE RUN of your own from your favorite running path please feel free to shoot me an email at destination26.2 at gmail dot com. I would love to feature other Rave Run’s here.

Yes my friends, I did just in fact arrive in El Paso, Texas a mere week and a half ago. I haven’t even had time to unpack my suitcase. Well that ended up saving me some time this morning, let me tell you.

Even though I just got here, I’m already saying a temporary goodbye to my new home here in Texas for a few weeks.

Goodbye El Paso Mountains, I’ve just started to love looking at you!

And HELLO Idaho mountains! We meet again old friend, oh yes we meet again.

There is nothing like a good trip back home to pass the time while you are counting down the days until your new house will close!

Actually, I’m not going home just to pass the time, I’m really going to see my older brother J-Bomb tie the knot! I’m super pumped to get another sis-in-law.

Aren’t they cute?

Y’all know how much I love weddings! 🙂

Yesterday I did a guest post over at Aneta’s blog where I talked about why I love weddings. Feel free to take a look!

Next time I blog will be from the land-o-potatoes! Yipppee! See y’all on the flip side.

Our New Home

I just wanted you all to know how much we appreciated your well wishes last week on finding a home. I’m happy to say we are no longer living out of an extended stay hotel!

Once we arrived here in El Paso last week, we immediately felt at home. I’m guessing it had something to do with the dryer air, the addition of Jack in Boxes/the absence of Waffle Houses everywhere, and the sight of these beautiful mountains!

Once we did our little happy dance over the fact that we weren’t living in humidity, we immediately hit the road to hunt for houses.

Due to a long waiting list for homes on Fort Bliss and the lack of decent rentals here we opted to check out the homes for sale instead.

Yup, we went house shopping!

After two days of looking at newly built homes and re-sell homes we finally agreed on one that will be perfect for us. We put in the contract and now we wait until everything closes!

This is not the house we picked, but definitely one of my favs.

We are buying our first home! I can’t even believe it.

Here is a sneak peak at the master bathroom in our new house. One of the only pictures I managed to snap during our epic house hunting adventure.

As we sit and wait for at least 45 days until closing, we found ourselves a cute little furnished apartment that offers a short term lease.

We are literally camping in our own temporary home now. We have whatever items we managed to fit in our cars (just the basics: bed sheets, pillows, one pan, two spatulas, 2 mugs, a coffee pot, three towels)  as the rest of our stuff stays in storage until we move into our real house.

Again, I’m a happy camper as I have everything I need. A nice comfy couch to sit on, internet access and my husband close by. 🙂

I have quite the week of exciting things happening over here. Check back tomorrow for a sweet giveaway you won’t want to miss!
